I applied for an internship in Ireland at the end of 2022, and by the end of January 2023 I had already moved to Dublin. Before my first day at work, I picked up coffee and went to the office with shaky knees. I’m sitting down at the lobby when an Irish guy approaches me and talks to me in a very foreign language. I do not understand a thing, just stare at him. When he slows down his speech, I realise it really is English that he is speaking, just very thick Donegal accent.
I combined two projects and one internship within 7 months of work in Abbey Group Ireland and UK on its Events Department. The Aer Lingus American Football Game 2023 and its production company On Location were supplied by our department. We provided On Location with travel packages for the guests coming over from USA to participate in the Navy VS Notre Dame game.
The events department consisted of approximately 10 to 13 members, including 4 interns. I was appointed as the intern for the accommodation team. At the month of the game, my job was to oversee the itinerary overview of the travel packages that we had for the 8,300 guests, audit the rooming lists, and have external communication with the hotels.
These travel packages varied from Dublin only packages to a 3-city packages that included staying in two different cities alongside with Dublin. All the 2- or 3-city travel packages included pick-ups from airports, accommodation, the game tickets, Dublin Hop on Hop off bus tour, a guide, a coach, visits to different attractions and fans party in Dublin. All in all, we produced high quality event tourism packages where all little things were considered and we went over and above to make sure the happiness of the quests.
Watch the video above to get a glimpse of the Notre Dame vs Navy game and the atmosphere from all around Dublin City. It was truly an unique experience to be working with this event. I flew back from Ireland with a bunch of new experiences, friends, and gratitude. Time will tell whether or not I will be moving back to Ireland.
