data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as a career coach for international talents at\u00a0<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Metropolia<\/span><\/i><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0University of Applied Sciences.<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Institutes<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">\u00a0of higher education boosting networking between businesses and data-contrast=\"auto\">Th<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">is<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0scarc<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ity of<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0networks\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">gives rise to<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">another\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">issue<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">:\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">E<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">mployers are struggling to spot the international talents with suitable profiles, while the latter group finds it hard to discover Finnish businesses in their own field<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(2).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to a study on cooperation between Finnish institutes of higher education and businesses, issued by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Education and Culture (<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">3<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">), the main objective for\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">businesses collaborating with institutes of higher education was recruiting new workforce.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Further development of networking opportunities meeting the needs of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">everyone<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0involved is for sure\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in demand<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, and it\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">seems to be a timely objective for us at institutes of higher education.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Perks of\u00a0<\/span><\/b><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">tailored recruiting events<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metropolia.fi\/en\/rdi\/rdi-projects\/simhe\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">the SIMHE Metropolia team<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(4)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, have the luxury of working with various groups of international talents: both current international degree students, and persons with a higher education degree from abroad seeking to develop their career in Finland. Among these professionals of different fields, the common denominator is their motivation to create networks to local businesses and find their niche in them.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Hence, we decided to organize a recruiting event focusing on businesses interested in the potential of our English-speaking international talents. The event, \u201c<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Metropolia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Match &#8211; Boost your Business\u201d took place\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in early March<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">and successfully united businesses with high-skilled talents.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">According to the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ir<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0feedback, the participating companies were pleased to attend a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n event tailored specifically for English\u00a0speakers, and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">thanked the attending international talents for being well prepared and genuinely interested in\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hearing more about the businesses<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0For example,\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.digipool.fi\/\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">the recruiting company Digipool<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(5)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0not only\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">discovered<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">several interesting profiles for their clients,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in line with<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the common procedure for recruiting companies,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">but also hired\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a recruitment consultant and\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a marketing specialist straight from the event<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0to boost their own business<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We are l<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">ooking forward to the next round,\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">as soon as gatherings of people are possible again. To address this issue, we at SIMHE <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Metropolia<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0(4)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0aim at acknowledging the skills needs of companies as the first step in the collaboration process.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For example, our current project\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.metropolia.fi\/en\/research-development-and-innovation\/projects\/simhe-path\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">SIMHE path<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">(7)\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">strives for matching the skills needs of participating businesses operating in the field of ICT with the skills of the project participants. The latter group consists of persons with a higher education degree in the field of ICT completed abroad, often supplemented by even years of work experience in their\u00a0field, yet\u00a0lacking sufficient networks for finding employment in Finland.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">Matching the profiles of international talents with the skills needs of businesses<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:220}\" data-wac-het=\"1\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">To tackle the challenge of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">international talents\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lacking both networks and information concerning the\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">skills needs of their <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">professional field in Finland<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">(<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">2<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">)<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, we first mapped the skills needs of\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the ICT companies taking part in the SIMHE path project. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This information\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">was<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0then u<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tilized<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0in order to match the companies with the participants\u2019 skills<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.
