Earlier this month, the Metropolia AI team, led by Mika H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen<\/a>, had the exciting opportunity to take part in\u00a0Pedaforum 2025<\/strong>,<\/a> Finland\u2019s largest higher education pedagogy conference, held right in our home base of Myllypuro, Helsinki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our team ran an interactive demo booth showcasing\u00a0five AI-powered tools<\/strong>\u00a0we\u2019ve been developing to support educators, researchers and students. Throughout the day, we had the pleasure of engaging with a diverse and enthusiastic crowd – from university lecturers and curriculum designers to grant officers and edtech innovators. And yes, we gave out plenty of candy too \ud83c\udf6c.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What We Showcased: 5 Practical AI Tools for Higher Education<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We believe that the best way to explore AI is to build with it – and that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019ve been doing. Here are the tools we presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A favorite among many visitors! A tool designed for\u00a0teachers to analyze their Moodle course content and slide decks<\/strong>. By using large language models (LLMs), this plugin helps educators uncover structural gaps, identify learning objectives and reflect on the clarity and alignment of their materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udcd8 Curriculum AI<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

A co-pilot for\u00a0working with degree programme curricula <\/strong>– whether you\u2019re revising learning outcomes, mapping competencies or aligning to national frameworks. Curriculum AI helps make curriculum work more collaborative and intelligent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This tool empowers educators and researchers to\u00a0conduct horizon scanning and foresight exercises<\/strong>\u00a0using AI. It synthesizes large volumes of trend data to support future-oriented thinking in academic planning and innovation strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the stars of the day, OpintoHain<\/a> uses GPT-4o and multi-agent workflows to\u00a0recommend relevant courses<\/strong>\u00a0to learners – whether they\u2019re Metropolia students or lifelong learners from outside our university. Attendees were able to upload their CVs, define learning goals and receive curated learning paths in real time.

The response we received was overwhelmingly positive. Participants appreciated the hands-on nature of our demos and the clear focus on\u00a0augmenting, not replacing, educators’ expertise<\/strong>. It was especially rewarding to hear feedback from colleagues at Aalto University, University of Helsinki, LUT University and other institutions across Finland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Attendees expressed excitement not just about the tools themselves, but about the broader message:\u00a0AI can be a meaningful part of academic life today – not just tomorrow.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
